How to Build a Night Skincare Routine (Step-by-Step Guide)

Common night routine mistakes

Using retinol every single night from day one. Your skin needs time to build tolerance. Start with 2 nights per week for the first month, then increase gradually. Jumping straight to daily use often causes peeling, redness, and irritation.

Applying too many actives at once. You don’t need retinol, AHA, BHA, vitamin C, and niacinamide all in one night. Pick one or two treatments and use them consistently. More products doesn’t mean better results.

Skipping moisturizer after retinol. Retinol can be drying. Always seal it with a moisturizer to prevent irritation and moisture loss.

Using your phone in bed after applying products. Your hands transfer product onto your phone screen, and your phone screen transfers bacteria onto your face. If you must scroll, do it before your routine.

Not washing your pillowcase regularly. All those expensive serums absorb into a dirty pillowcase. Change it every 3-4 days for best results.
