About

Hey, I’m Ananya!

Welcome to SkincareSaga, your honest guide to finding skincare products that actually work for Indian skin.

My story

I started SkincareSaga because I was tired of spending money on products that promised miracles but delivered nothing. Every brand claims to be the “best.” Every product says it will transform your skin overnight. But which ones actually work?

After years of trial and error, and way too many breakouts from wrong products, I decided to start documenting what I learned. SkincareSaga is the result of that journey.

My approach to skincare

I don’t just read the label and tell you what a brand wants you to hear. I dig deeper.

I study cosmetic science and skincare formulation through accredited courses, including the Introduction to Cosmetic Science and Ingredients specialization by Olay on Coursera, which covers skin biology, raw materials, formulation science, and product development. This education helps me understand not just what ingredients are in a product, but why they work (or don’t), how they interact with each other, and what concentrations are actually effective versus what’s just marketing.

I’ve spent hundreds of hours researching skincare ingredients, reading published dermatological studies, and analysing product formulations. When I say a product contains niacinamide, I can tell you what concentration is effective, how it interacts with other actives in the formula, and whether the overall formulation is likely to deliver results.

I also understand that Indian skin has unique needs. Higher melanin levels, tropical and humid climate conditions, and specific concerns like hyperpigmentation, tanning, and sensitivity to certain ingredients mean that recommendations designed for Western skin types don’t always apply here. Every review and routine on SkincareSaga is written with Indian skin in mind.

What I do here

I research, test, and review skincare products available on Amazon India so you don’t have to waste your money on things that don’t work. Every recommendation on this site is based on:

  • Ingredient analysis: I study the full ingredient list (INCI), not just the hero ingredients highlighted on the front of the packaging. I evaluate concentrations, formulation compatibility, and potential irritants.
  • Scientific evidence: I reference published dermatological research and clinical studies when evaluating whether an ingredient or product can deliver on its claims.
  • Real-world testing: I use the products myself for a minimum of 3-4 weeks before writing a review. First impressions aren’t enough to judge skincare.
  • Honest opinions: If something doesn’t work, I’ll say so. No sugarcoating, no positive reviews in exchange for commissions.
  • Budget awareness: Great skin shouldn’t require a luxury budget. I always include affordable alternatives alongside premium picks.

What you’ll find here

  • Detailed product reviews with ingredient breakdowns, pros, cons, and honest verdicts
  • “Best of” roundups comparing top products in each category
  • Step-by-step skincare routines for different skin types and concerns
  • Ingredient guides explaining what niacinamide, salicylic acid, vitamin C, retinol, and other actives actually do
  • Budget-friendly finds under ₹500 and ₹1,000
  • Seasonal skincare tips tailored for Indian weather conditions

My review process

Every product review on SkincareSaga follows the same process:

  1. Research: I study the ingredient list, check the brand’s claims against scientific evidence, and read existing user reviews on Amazon and other platforms.
  2. Testing: I use the product for at least 3-4 weeks as part of my daily routine, noting changes in skin texture, hydration, irritation, or any other effects.
  3. Comparison: I compare the product against alternatives in the same category and price range.
  4. Writing: I write the review with complete honesty, including both the positives and the negatives.

No brand pays me to write positive reviews. My income comes from Amazon affiliate commissions (explained below), which are earned regardless of whether my review is positive or negative.

A note on affiliate links

Some links on this site are Amazon affiliate links. This means if you click and purchase something, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This helps me keep SkincareSaga running and continue creating free content for you.

I only recommend products I genuinely believe in. My income from affiliate links never influences my reviews. If a product is bad, I’ll tell you, even if it means losing a commission. You can read my full Affiliate Disclosure here.
